Cantina Orsogna is a cooperative winery at the foot of the Majella National Park in Abruzzo, founded in 1964 by a small group of growers and now numbering around 500 members. Since the late 1980s the estate has pushed further into organic and biodynamic farming than almost any winery in Italy — today over 80% of its 1,100+ hectares are certified organic, and more than a third are certified biodynamic under Demeter, making Cantina Orsogna the largest Demeter-certified biodynamic grape producer in the world.
The vineyards sit at around 400–500 metres above sea level, just 15km from the Adriatic Sea, where cool mountain air and coastal influence give the fruit both structure and freshness. Winemaking here follows lunar cycles and biodynamic principles rather than chemical shortcuts — a philosophy carried through most vividly in the estate's Lunaria range, which showcases native Abruzzo varieties like Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pecorino and Passerina as single-varietal, low-intervention bottlings.
