Cascina Adelaide

Cascina Adelaide was founded in 2000 at the foot of the medieval castle of Barolo — a dream fulfilled by Amabile Drocco, who at 60 years old left a successful mechanical business behind to devote himself to the land his own father had worked. The estate is named for Adelaide, the original 18th-century owner of the farmhouse the Drocco family purchased to begin their winemaking journey.

Today Cascina Adelaide tends 12 hectares of vineyard, 10 of which are planted exclusively to Nebbiolo da Barolo, spread across eight historic crus — Cannubi, Bussia, Baudana, Fossati, Preda, Sorano, Costabella and Pernanno — in five villages across the Barolo zone. Each cru offers its own microclimate and soil, which is why the estate bottles them separately rather than blending them away. In January 2021, Amabile's granddaughter Chiara joined the winery straight after her degree, bringing a new generation's energy to a project still guided by her grandfather's original vision. The Riserva "Per Elen" is named for Amabile's life companion, a blend of the estate's two finest crus, Preda and Cannubi.
