Kellerei Meran (Cantina Merano) traces its roots to 1901, when a small group of growers around Merano first banded together as a cooperative. In 2010, that original winery merged with the neighbouring Burggräfler Kellerei to form the estate as it exists today — now numbering around 360 member growers cultivating roughly 245 hectares across Merano, the Vinschgau valley and the surrounding hills.
The vineyards benefit from a distinctive microclimate: Alpine coolness meets Mediterranean warmth carried up from nearby Lake Garda, on porphyry and quartz-rich soils that give the wines real minerality. Under cellar master Stefan Kapfinger, the estate takes a deliberately hands-off, "midwife" approach to winemaking — guiding each wine rather than forcing it — producing everything from crisp Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling to structured Lagrein and Pinot Noir Riserva, alongside the indigenous Schiava that has grown around Merano for centuries.
